Stronger Together: S.H.O.W.’s First In-Person Clinic

This September, S.H.O.W. welcomed swimmers and their families to St. Augustine for our first in-person clinic. From September 10–13, eight swimmers—including wounded veterans and their family members—came together for a weekend of swimming, encouragement, and connection. Our youngest swimmer was just seven years old, while our oldest attendee—Nala—was a spry 84 (in dog years), proving that the joy of swimming can span generations and species!
Special guest Coach Gregg Troy shares instruction and encouragement with S.H.O.W. swimmers. Special guest Coach Andy Korch helps swimmers build confidence as they practice starts and dives. Coach Nikki introduces athletes to wetland training. Coach Mo provides one-on-one instruction and encouragement in the water. Coach Tracy helps a swimmer learn proper technique.
S.H.O.W. coaches Lisa, Tracy, and Nikki provided instruction and support tailored to each swimmer’s abilities and goals. Special guest coaches Gregg Troy and Andy Korch also shared their knowledge and experience. Coach Greg Burgess, founder of S.H.O.W., kept the swimmers motivated from the deck, encouraging them to move beyond their comfort zones and recognize their potential.
The weekend was about much more than time in the pool. Swimmers and families shared meals, celebrated accomplishments, and formed new friendships. Although swimming is often considered an individual sport, training with others provides motivation, accountability, and a shared sense of purpose. A teammate’s encouragement can make a difficult set feel manageable, and celebrating someone else’s progress can be just as rewarding as reaching a personal goal.

For wounded veterans and their families, these relationships can be especially meaningful. The pool offers a place to grow stronger, face challenges, and connect with others who understand the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and belonging.
Wish you had been there? Join S.H.O.W. and become part of our community! We look forward to hosting more in-person events like this one, but you do not have to wait until the next clinic to connect. Our online community includes monthly virtual calls featuring topics designed to keep you informed, motivated, and connected. Whether you join us in person or online, remember: You will always have a lane with us.
We are proud of every swimmer who joined us and grateful to the coaches, families, donors, and supporters who made the weekend possible. This was only the beginning!
